Police: Robber paid for aborted getaway taxi
LONDON, Ohio -- Authorities in Ohio say a man robbed a bank, hopped into a taxi and paid for the ride even after the cabbie cut the trip short. WBNS-TV reports police and the FBI are looking for the suspect who robbed a London, Ohio, bank on Thursday morning. Investigators say he handed a note to the teller in which he claimed to have a gun. After getting cash, the man got in a taxi to go to Columbus, about 30 miles away. Authorities say they contacted the cab company, which tracked down the driver on a cell phone. The cabbie believed the suspected robber had overheard the call, pulled over in a store parking lot and asked the man to get out. Police say the man obliged -- and paid the fare.
