Halle Berry is shrugging off rumors that she'll play Aretha Franklin on the big screen. In an interview with "E! News" at Sunday's Golden Globe Awards, the Oscar-winner revealed that she doesn't think she's the right person to play music's "Queen of Soul." Berry commented, quote, "If I could carry a tune, I'd consider it. Someone should tell Aretha that I can't do her justice." Berry made her comments just days after Franklin herself said she'd like the Revlon spokeswoman to portray her in a movie during a phone interview with "The Wendy Williams Show." The 68-year-old confirmed that a film about her life has been in talks for years, adding that a biopic now looks like a go.
Should Berry have a change of heart and decide to play Franklin, it won't be the first time she's inhabited the role of a real-life singing legend. The actress won multiple awards for her portrayal of singer and actress Dorothy Dandridge in HBO's "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge." That film was co-written by "Grey's Anatomy" creator Shonda Rhimes.
