Michael Douglas Talks About Cancer Battle With Matt Lauer

Just months after revealing his diagnosis with throat cancer, Michael Douglas says he may just have this thing licked. In an interview with Matt Lauer on "Dateline NBC," the Oscar winner said that there's a good chance he's in the clear. Douglas added, quote, "I think the odds are, with the tumor gone and what I know about this particular type of cancer, that I've got it beat." The 66-year-old actor announced in late August that he had been diagnosed with Stage Four throat cancer, but was optimistic that he would recover. Douglas told Lauer in his interview on Monday that he had lost 32 pounds and a lot of muscle mass during treatment, but recently added back 12 pounds.

Douglas, who won an Oscar for his work in the 1987 movie "Wall Street," was nominated for a Golden Globe this year for reprising his role as Gordon Gekko in the film's sequel, "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps." He didn't win, but when he went on stage to present the final award of the night, he brought the audience to its feet, joking, quote, "There's got to be an easier way to get a standing ovation."
