Anne Hathaway To Play Catwoman In Next "Batman" Adventure

Anne Hathaway is getting catty for her next film role. The 28-year-old actress has been tapped to play Catwoman in the next installment of the "Batman" movie franchise, "The Dark Knight Rises." In a statement released by Warner Bros., director Christopher Nolan said he was thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Hathaway, calling her a "fantastic addition to our ensemble." Hathaway follows Halle Berry, Michelle Pfeiffer, Eartha Kitt, Lee Meriweather and Julie Newmar in the list of actresses who have played the feline femme fatale on screen over the years. Currently starring in "Love and Other Drugs" with Jake Gyllenhaal, Hathaway is set to co-host next month's Academy Awards ceremony with James Franco.

Nolan also announced actor Tom Hardy in the role of the villain Bane in "Dark Knight Rises." The collaboration is a reunion for the two as Nolan also guided Hardy through last summer's blockbuster hit "Inception." "The Dark Knight Rises" is on track for theatrical release next year.
