DC Breathalyzer Tests May Have Been Inaccurate For A Decade
There may be some Washington DC motorists looking for answers " or expunged criminal records -- this week. According to the motor monitoring journal TheNewspaper.com, a former DC police officer claims that breath testing equipment used on motorists to assess DUI -- or driving under the influence -- may have been faulty for a decade. The former officer has issued a memo to the city's attorney general that the "Intoxilyzer" breath machines in use weren't calibrated since 2000. Meanwhile, Jamison Koehler, a Washington DC defense attorney is speaking out to the public on his law firm's blog. Koehler writes, quote, "You too could have been pulled over on the basis of a minor traffic violation and put through a series of difficult and humiliating field sobriety tests." The attorney continues saying that on the basis of faulty Breathalyzer results, drivers could have spent a night in jail, incurred thousands of dollars in legal fees, and endured the stress of missed work.
