DC Area Homeowners Reprimanded For Christmas Sign

Christmas is over, but two Washington DC-area homeowners are in hot water for their choice of holiday décor. WashingtonPost.com reports that Donald and Melanie Henderson received a complaint letter on Christmas Eve regarding a sign they'd posted on the lawn of their Prince William home. The sign read, "Happy Birthday, Jesus. Come Let Us Adore Him." Apparently, it wasn't the religious message that concerned the community management. The Hendersons were informed that they'd broken a rule that limits yard signs to real estate or security displays. Donald Henderson says he's not taking down his "Jesus" sign until he takes down his other holiday decorations. The federal government employee adds that he plans to put up the "Jesus" placard again next year. Henderson says, quote, "I figured we couldn't put up commercial or political signs, but certainly the association could use discretion when it came to religion."
