"Wheel" Announcer Charlie O'Donnell Dies

(Sherman Oaks, CA) -- A familiar voice to game show fans is now silent. "Variety" reports Charlie O'Donnell passed away Monday in Sherman Oaks, California. The cause of death was not revealed. O'Donnell was the longtime announcer for the hit series "Wheel of Fortune." He was the show's voice between 1975 and 1980 -- when Chuck Woolery emceed the program. After Jack Clark died in 1988 -- O'Donnell resumed as "Wheel's" announcer until his passing. O'Donnell started his TV career in 1958 as an announcer on "American Bandstand" during the years it originated from his native Philadelphia. He would go on to become the voice of other shows such as "Tic Tac Dough," "The Joker's Wild," and many more. O'Donnell was 78.
