Marie Osmond Gives Winfrey First Interview After Son's Death
Marie Osmond is expressing her sorrow over the death this year of her son, Michael. On Thursday's "Oprah Winfrey Show," Osmond said Michael was in the throes of severe depression at the time of his apparent suicide in February 2010. Later in the broadcast, the 51-year-old broke down while performing the song "Pie Jesu," a tribute to her late child. Osmond also shot down rumors that her son was trying to hide the fact that he was gay at the time of his death. Marie added that her desire to clear the air now is linked to the fact that she has an openly-gay daughter who was offended by the suggestion that "all gay people commit suicide." Osmond also commented that her own battle with postpartum depression has helped her to understand what Michael may have been feeling before his death.
