George Strait Earns 83rd Top Ten Hit

George Strait has his 83rd career top ten hit with his current single. "The Breath You Take" climbs to number ten on the Billboard Country Songs chart this week, putting the singer just nine hits away from tying Eddy Arnold's record for the most Billboard top ten hits. Arnold had 92 songs reach the top tier of the chart between the years 1945 and 1980. Strait began his run for the record a year later, when "Unwound" peaked at number six back in 1981. Every year since then George has had at least one single match the accomplishment. In most years Strait has logged at least two top ten hits. His 1986 single "Nobody In His Right Mind Would've Left Her" began a run of eleven consecutive number ones, which continued through 1989's "Ace in the Hole." "The Breath You Take" is his second top ten of 2010. Only seven of Strait's singles have failed to reach the top ten on the Billboard country chart.
