Susan Boyle To Sing For The Pope Today
Scottish songbird Susan Boyle will be performing for Pope Benedict the Sixteenth today as he visits Glasgow, Scotland. Scottish news website "STV" reports that Boyle will also get to meet the Pontiff. Upon hearing this news Wednesday, the singer reportedly appeared to faint while attending her dress rehearsal at Bellahouston Park in Glasgow. Boyle will sing three songs today. She will perform the hymn "How Great Thou Art" and "I Dreamed A Dream" before the Papal Mass, which will be attended by an estimated crowd of 65-thousand. Afterwards, Boyle will sing a farewell song for the Pope as he departs.
Just last month, Boyle said that this performance was something she had always wanted to do. The vocalist -- who is Catholic -- was approached for the honor by the president of Scottish Bishops' Conference, Cardinal Keith O'Brien. Today marks the first day of the Pontiff's visit to Britain. He is staying through the 19th.
