Florida Woman Suing Over "Wet T-Shirt" Arrest
A Florida woman says she plans to sue over a recent run-in with the police. TheOrlandoSentinel.com reports that Janet Lovett is fuming over an incident at the Tavares Splash Park this Spring. Lovett allegedly refused to give her name to a police officer after he told her to cover up when the T-shirt and the bra that she was wearing got wet. Cops subsequently arrested the 36-year-old and booked her on one misdemeanor count of obstruction of justice. Lovett - who was at the park with her seven-year-old son - is now taking legal action against the city of Tavares for false arrest, battery, malicious prosecution, and violation of her civil rights. Lovett's attorney Howard Marks comments, "She was taking her child to a splash park and then winds up five hours in jail. That's a bad day." Tavares City Police Chief Stoney Lubins asserts that the full-time homemaker instigated her own arrest.
