Vince Gill Makes Guest Appearance At Clapton's Nashville Concert
Vince Gill can trade guitar licks with the best of 'em. He made a surprise appearance Saturday night at Eric Clapton's concert at Nashville's Sommet Center. The classic rocker invited his "very good friend" to the stage, and gave Gill extended playing time on such Clapton classics as "Layla" and "I've Got a Rock And Roll Heart," as well as on "Running On Faith" and the Bessie Smith cover "Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out." Gill also returned for the encore, and turned in a solo on the blues standard "Crossroads," which was also a hit for Clapton's 1960s power trio, Cream.
The special provided a preview of sorts for what's to come this summer. Gill is among the stars slated to take part in Clapton's upcoming Crossroads Guitar Festival. It's Clapton's third all-star guitar event to raise money for his Crossroads Centre in Antigua, and the third time Gill has been involved. The Crossroads Guitar Festival will take place in Chicago on June 26th.
