Town Selectman Called Hero, Saves Three People From Fire

(Pittsfield, NH) -- A newly elected Pittsfield, New Hampshire town selectman who also works as a taxi cab driver can now add "hero" to his many titles. Don Chase was reportedly taking a fare to the grocery store when he saw smoke billowing out of a house on Saturday night. Chase used to live there, and knew the occupant Rose Judd, who became a widow several months ago. The passenger in the cab, pounded on the front door as flames raged in the back. They managed to get Judd, her daughter Nancy and infant granddaughter out. The fire lieutenant says smoke detectors were not working, adding the occupants were unaware of the fire, and if Chase had not shown up when he did, the outcome could have been a deadly one.
