Jimmy Wayne is nearly a third of the way through his "Meet Me Halfway" walk from Nashville to Phoenix. The singer crossed the border into Oklahoma Tuesday evening, completing 530 miles of the roughly 17-hundred-mile trip. He says his trek is going well, noting, quote, "Walking through the small towns and farmlands in Tennessee and Arkansas has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. I have met some incredible and generous people who have offered me meals, a warm and dry place to sleep and companionship." He admits that when he began the journey back on New Year's Day, he didn't have any expectations but had made a few assumptions -- which have been wrong. Wayne explains, quote, "I thought I would be alone, sleeping in a tent at night. But as the saying goes, man makes plans and God laughs. There have been many times I've slept outside, but even more times that because of a kind and generous soul, I have had a roof over my head."While Wayne set out on his own, one supporter quickly donated an RV to provide assistance and security for the singer. He calls the vehicle "a real blessing," and adds, quote, "The visual on the wrap gets people's attention about Meet Me Halfway -- and that's what I am doing this for." His goal is to raise awareness of the homeless and money for the organizations that help them. The country star, who spent time as a teenager living on the streets, is particularly interested in drawing attention to the needs of homeless youth and young adults. He explains that many of these people -- like him -- grew up in foster care, and after turning 18 found themselves struggling to make it on their own with no family or other system of support.
