Carrie Underwood To Be Honored By Nashville Symphony

Carrie Underwood is slated for a new honor. The former "American Idol" winner has been tapped to receive the Nashville Symphony's Harmony Award. The annual prize recognizes individuals who show ongoing interest and support for the Nashville music community, and who have been a significant addition to its development. Previous Harmony Award recipients include Rascal Flatts, Martina McBride, LeAnn Rimes, Amy Grant, Vince Gill, Dolly Parton, Trisha Yearwood, and The Judds. Underwood will be recognized with a presentation during the 2009 Harmony Award at the Ball, taking place at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville on December 12th.

Underwood was named the "American Idol" in 2005. Since then she has won four GRAMMY Awards, 13 Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music Awards, and numerous other honors. Earlier this year she became just the seventh woman earn the prestigious title of ACM Entertainer of the Year. She's also the first country artist ever to chart ten number one singles from her first two albums.
